Domain Registration

  • Do you register web site domains for us?

Yes, we do.

 

  • How much does a domain cost?

It depends on the type of the domain and the domain registrar. Typically our rates start from INR 500.00 for common domain extensions such as .com, .net, .org, in and .co.in.

 

  • Do we own the domain that we register?

No, it is more like renting it out from the domain registrar (the company through whom we register the domain) for as many years as you register or keep renewing it. During this period, you would be the owner for this domain.

 

  • What is domain renewal?
You register the domain name first, for say one year, and after this time, you need to renew it to have the ownership on this domain. If you do not renew, it expires and someone else can then become the owner of this domain by registering it on their name.

Yes, we do.

 

  • We need vibrant sites with a lot of flash and special effects. Can you do such a site for us?

If flash is right for the type of business or the kind of site you would want, then we will. We recommend you whether flash is good for your site or not, depending on your business objectives. If it is, we can develop such a site for you.

 

  • How long do you take to design a 10-page web site?

It depends on the type of business, technologies used and the effort we have to put in.

 

  • How much do you charge for designing a 10-page web site?
We don't charge based on the number of pages. We consider each site design as a creative project and charge based on the overall effort we have to put in on the project. Since we mainly use LAMP technologies (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP), we do not have the overheads of proprietory software costs.

Yes, we provide web hosting solutions that are based on Unix and Linux platforms.

  • We found a better hosting deal than yours!

As someone put it aptly, competing based on price in a service industry is bad business. We just don't want to do that, and compromise on the quality of our services. Our rates are as per the investment we put in to keep our servers and their features top-notch, whether you ask for them or not. If you are so carried away by the pricing of someone else and do not care about service quality, then we are afraid we don't have time to educate you!.

 

  • Do you oversell your server resources?

No, as a policy we don't. Overselling assumes that not all the hosting customers will use up all the resources (diskspace, bandwidth etc) that were allocated to them, so that they can be used to accommodate new customers. We are not comfortable with this model, and whatever resources we promise, all those resources would be available to all our clients all the time.


  • Do you offer special rates for voluntary organizations?

Yes, we offer our services to them at discounted rates, provided they have a proven track record of being a genuine voluntary organization and have the relevant registration documents.

 

  • What servers do you use for hosting?

Our Linux shared hosting on a high-end Xeon server with 15K RPM SCSI hard disks in hardware RAID 10 configuration. In simple words, this means that the server is fast and can withstand the hard disk failures.

 

  • Where are your servers physically located?

Our server is in the east coast of usa, and is continually monitored by one of the best support teams in the world.

  • How can we check our mails, if we are travelling and not at the workplace?

You can use the webmail feature that we provide. If your domain name is tuxg.com for example, you can check your mail at: http://tuxg.com/webmail/.

 

  • Where can we access the control panel for our domain?

If your domain name is tuxg.com for example, you can access the control panel for your domain at: http://tuxg.com/cpanel/

 

  • Why can't I receive mails from a particular person?

There could be two reasons for this to happen. 1) Either they are sending e-mails using a dynamic IP Internet connection, which cannot be reverse looked up or 2) Their e-mail(s) might contain viruses.

 

  • Why can't I ping to my domain? I am one of your customers.

We normally disable ping for security reasons.

 

  • Why can't I login to webmail with the right username and password?
As a security measure, repeated login failures (due to incorrect passwords) is considered as an attempt to guess the password by someone else. Please contact tech support to get this fixed.

  • How much time does it take to popularize my site on the Internet?

It is a tricky question. In general, wait for at least 3 months to see the results of any marketing efforts.

 

  • What plans do you have for Web Site Marketing?

Currently, we offer this service to our Web Presence Services clients only.

 

  • Is there a trick to popularize our web site overnight?

The trick is to have patience, so it cannot be done overnight.

 

  • If we know the methods to popularize our site, can we do it ourselves?

Yes, certainly. The only difference being that we already learnt these tools and techniques and you need to invest your time to learn to do it yourself. Moreover, you need to have patience, while things start happening.
